MyPiece creates a new generation of mouthpieces for brass instruments using modern 3D technology. Using a 3D scan of your face, we create a mouthpiece that fits perfectly to your mouth, and evenly distributes lip pressure onto the rim of the mouthpiece. This improves control over the sound, produces a more open sound, allows to achieve higher registers, and enhances flexibility and stamina when playing.
Our invention was patented in 2021.
Production is expected to start at the end of 2023.

You will receive a set of synthetic resin mouthpieces with different standard shapes. After testing these shapes, you can order your preferred mouthpiece from us.
Try it!
Using a 3D lip scan, we capture prominences and depressions of the area around the mouth and individually adjust the rim of your mouthpiece. We then manufacture a couple of resin prototypes for you, and if you are satisfied, we will produce your personal mouthpiece in brass.
Test it!
Instead of adjusting to your mouthpiece, your MyPiece professional mouthpiece is adjusted to you. This allows you to unleash your full musical potential.
Your current mouthpiece can be used as a basis for your individual one. Due to the individual production method, we can adopt the mouthpiece’s shape, bore and edge width, and transfer it to your MyPiece mouthpiece. Of course, your name will be engraved on your unique MyPiece mouthpiece.
We produce our prototypes using a professional 3D printer with a certified, biocompatible synthetic resin, which is also used in dentistry and prosthetics.
Our production partner will produce the brass mouthpieces with his turning and milling center at the end of 2023.
For centuries, mouthpieces have been manufactured as flat-rimmed bodies of revolution. However, this flat rim is only due to the production method and does not fit every mouth. David Lochmatter also had to realize this during his music studies at the Music Academy in Lucerne.
After his studies, David Lochmatter first experimented with rudimentary tools such as pocketknives and hand grinders on his mouthpieces. Gradually, the desire for a mouthpiece that was perfectly adapted to the shape of the mouth grew.

A 3D scan was needed to measure the shape of the mouth. David's brother Thomas Lochmatter (engineer/PhD in robotics) took over the processing of the scan data. He develops software and hardware for the industry and has experience in processing 3D data. Thomas wrote software that allows mouthpieces to be drawn and an adapted mouthpiece rim shape to be calculated using the scan data.
After purchasing a simple FDM 3D printer and months of tinkering, David Lochmatter found his ideal mouthpiece rim shape, which opened new musical possibilities that previously seemed unattainable.
The young family company with David, Thomas and Manuela Lochmatter invested a lot of time, work and passion in this project and in the planning and production of an ergonomically perfectly adapted mouthpiece. We received the patent for this innovation in 2021. From this innovation grew the heart's desire to be able to share the product with others so that other musicians can also benefit from an ergonomically adapted mouthpiece.
